Can fibre prevent breast cancer?

Fibre can protect against cancer

This week scientists funded by World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) found that eating ten grams of fibre daily lowers women’s risk of breast cancer by five per cent.

And as the effect is cumulative, eating 20 grams would mean a ten per cent lower risk and so on.

Media coverage of our bowel cancer report

Today we have published the most authoratative ever report on how diet, physical activity and weight affect bowel cancer risk as part of our Continuous Update Project.

Our press release focused on the findings that there is convincing evidence that red and processed meat increase bowel cancer risk and that foods containing fibre reduce risk of the disease.
